Brit Surfer Fights Off Shark In New Zealand

Darren Mills, a 28-year-old British surfer, has been attacked by a shark in Porpoise Bay off the coast of New Zealand's South Island, on Friday.

Mr Mills managed to fight the shark off by punching and wriggling his leg free.

Mr Mills lives in Queenstown but he is originally from Crawley, West Sussex.

According to The Southland Times his partner, Karen Thomson watched the attack from the beach and his friends rushed to help him.

This is the second shark attack in recent weeks.

Masked Men With Axes Stage Daylight Raid Of Glasgow Arcade
Police have appealed for information after four masked men, armed with axes, staged a daylight smash-and-grab robbery in Glasgow's Argyll Arcade. The four men entered the arcade wearing masks and carrying axes, they set off a smoke bomb before trying to smash shop windows at about 12:15 on Tuesday.

Antarctic scientist dies after seal attack
A British scientist has been killed in a seal attack while snorkelling at an Antarctic research station. The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) announced today that marine biologist Kirsty Margot Brown, 28, died at Rothera Research Station on the Antarctic Peninsula yesterday.

Man Arrested After Train Hits Car
A man has been arrested after a train hit an empty car on a level crossing. It is understood the CrossCountry train, which was carrying 42 people, smashed into the vehicle at Clay Mills, near Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire at around 7.25pm on Monday, 20 July. No injuries have been reported.
