Ten Injured In Clacton Explosion

Ten people have been taken to hospital following a suspected gas explosion on a street in Clacton, Essex.

One person is believed to be be suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services were alerted to the explosion in Cloes Lane around 8.30am on Wednesday morning.

The blast sparked a gas-fuelled fire at a semi-detached house tearing through the neighbouring property. Other houses were also damaged by the flying rubble.

Around 30 fire-fighters as well as police and paramedics are at the scene.

Almost 19 Homes have been evacuated and hospitals are on standby to help any casualties.

The electricity has been turned off and will affect the whole street for some time. Police have cordoned off runs from Flatford Drive junction with Cloes Lane to the Hadleigh Road junction. Nien-Oord has also been cordoned off.

Suspected bomber remanded in custody
Suspect bomber Hussain Osman has been remanded in custody following a court appearance on Friday morning. Amid tight security Mr Osman, 27, appeared before Bow Street Magistrates court sitting at Belmarsh prison. He was charged with seven offences including the attempted murder of passengers on a Tube train at Shepherd's Bush on July 21.

Body Found Following Explosion in Co Durham
A body of a man has been recovered from a house in Darlington, Co Durham, following an explosion. It is understood that fire crews were called after a suspected explosion caused a fire at a property on Lewes Road at about 02:50 on Friday morning. The body was found by firefighters after they entered the building.

Romanian Girl Feared Abducted In Scotland
Police in Glasgow are continuing their search for a teenage Romanian girl, amid fears that she may have been abducted. Irina Carpaci, 15, disappeared after leaving her home in Daisy Street in Govanhill, Glasgow, around 11am on Saturday.

Three Escape Gas Explosion In South Norwood
Three people have escaped with minor injuries following a gas explosion at a shop with flats above it on Portland Road, South Norwood, London Fire Brigade (LFB) has reported. LFB said that severe damage was caused in the explosion at the three storey building.

Iraq bombs leave more than 150 dead
More than 150 people have been killed in a series of bomb blasts in Iraq. In the deadliest attack, at least 115 people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a market in Sadriyah. An hour before that blast, at least 30 people were killed in what is believed to have been an attack by a suicide bomber in a car at a police checkpoint in Sadr City.
