Prince Charles Visits Somerset Flood Victims

The Prince of Wales visited victims of the Somerset floods today.

Prince Charles spent an hour chatting to locals in Stoke St Gregory before continuing his tour.

He arrived early in the afternoon and spoke to residents at Williams Hall. During his visit he also met with farmers and emergency service staff.

High winds and heavy rain continued throughout his visit.

Prince Charles's Countryside Fund is donating £50,000 to help the area, and the Duke of Westminster is also giving £50,000.

UK Swine Flu Deaths Reach 50
Deaths from the H1Ni1 swine flu virus continue to increase as workers return after the New Year break and infection spreads. The latest figures from the Health Protection Agency show 11 more people across the UK have died from flu this winter, taking the total to 50. Of these, 45 died with swine flu and five with another strain, flu type B.

Two People Die In Lightning Strikes
Two people have been killed, while two more remain in hospital, following separate lightning strikes in Brecon Beacons, Powys, on Sunday. At around midday on Sunday, emergency services were called to the park after lightning struck the peaks around the Pen y Fan area. Two people were airlifted to hospital in Merthyr Tydfil.

Man Jailed Over Stun Gun Possession
A drug dealer who kept a stun gun at his home in Southampton has been jailed for five years. Wesley Walters, 26, from Rampart Road, was arrested in September 2013 as part of Operation Fortress. When detectives searched his property they found the firearm disguised as a mobile phone in the back of a drawer.

UK and US Counterfeit Ring Smashed
The largest haul of counterfeit goods in UK history has been seized by police as part of a joint operation by authorities in London and America. Six men have been arrested as part of the trans-Atlantic investigation into sophisticated organised crime. US forces also held nine others in connection with the seizure.

Cameron Supports Johnson In Mayoral Race
Race frontrunner Boris Johnson - who is expected to beat rival Ken Livingstone for the prestigious role of Mayor of London - has been enjoying some high level support. The Tory candidate is being backed by party Leader David Cameron who said that Mr Johnson is "twice as charismatic and energetic" as his rival Livingstone.
