Additional Cuts Of £30m Expected For Devon And Cornwall Police

Devon and Cornwall Police have said it will need to save an additional £30 million in the next four years due to government funding cuts, according to the BBC.

Senior police officials are understood to have given the information to the BBC's South West Home Affairs Correspondent, Simon Hall, but the force decline to officially comment on the news.

To date the force have made some £51m in cuts, with the loss of 400 officers.

A central funding announcement is expected to be made next week.

Devon and Cornwall Police could lose a further 140 full time officers following the latest round of budget cuts, according to a report by the BBC. The BBC claim that "senior sources" within the force have told them that more officers will have to be cut, which will see the force drop below the "touchstone 3,000 figure".

Deepcut investigation criticised in new report
The Surrey Police investigation into the deaths of recruits at the Deepcut army barracks has been criticised by another police force. Devon and Cornwall Police’s report into the deaths for four recruits at the barracks concluded that Surrey Police narrowed the focus of the inquiry by concentrating too much on suicide as the most likely outcome.

A police officer has been treated in hospital after being attacked with a sledgehammer. Police say that the 41-year-old officer was responding to a report of a cash machine robbery at a Tesco Express store in Sandwell.
