Govt Nominate Forth Bridge For World Heritage Status
The Forth Bridge, which connects Edinburgh with Fife, has been nominated by the government for World Heritage status.
Unesco will evaluate the bridge over an 18-month period, with a decision expected in 2015.
The UK currently has 28 World Heritage sites, five of them in Scotland.
It is thought the World Heritage status for the bridge would attract more tourists to the area, with Culture Secretary Maria Miller saying: "If the Forth Bridge bid is successful in achieving such prestigious international recognition, then Britain will have yet another iconic place by which to attract tourists to our shores."
