Petition Calls For Murders To Continue Sentence In UK
A petition has been launched calling for the murders of Catherine Wells-Burr to continue to serve their sentences in the UK.
Miss Wells-Burr was murdered by her boyfriend Rafal Nowak in a plot to claim a six-figure life insurance policy. She was smothered before being put in her and driven, which was then set on fire.
Nowak, 31, his ex-girlfriend Anna Lagwinowicz, 32, and her uncle Tadevsz Dmytryszyn, 38, were each jailed for 32 years in June.
It has now been reported that Nowak and Lagwinowicz, both Polish nationals, have applied for a transfer to Poland. It is understood that in Poland their jail terms could be cut to 25 years.
Dmytryszyn has also launched an appeal against his conviction.
A petition calling for the murderers to remain in the UK for the duration of their jail terms has to date received over 2,000 signatures.
Miss Wells-Burr's family have said that the prospect of Nowak and Lagwinowicz being transferred was "a slap in the face".
The UK has a prison transfer arrangement with Poland, with the Ministry of Justice saying that they were committed to more prisoners serving jail terms in their home country.
