Police Appeal Following Brighton Robberies
Police are appealing for witnesses after two knifepoint robberies happened in the early hours of Sunday in Brighton.
The first was when a 19-year-old man was walking into John Street at about 1.30am at the junction of Sussex Street when a man armed with a knife stopped him and demanded money. He handed over his wallet and the suspect ran off along John Street. A group of youths are believed to see him running off.
In the second robbery a 19-year-old woman was walking in Lewes Road at 4.15am when she was approached by a man from behind who demanded she hand over her purse. When she said she had none he stated he would walk her to a cash point. As they started to walk, the victim saw a group of people and ran and the suspect ran off across Lewes Road and up St Martin's Street.
Neither victim was hurt. The suspect is described as white, 5' 5", aged in his early 20s, with a small face and wearing a grey hooded jumper with the hood up and tracksuit trousers.
Detective Constable Paul Clements said: "We believe the two robberies maybe linked. In both cases there were groups of people nearby and we are appealing for witnesses to contact police."
