Councils 'Pay Your Rent!' Christmas Card Criticised

Christmas cards sent to council tenants in west London reading, "Don't overindulge this Christmas. Pay your rent!", have been described as insulting.

The card, which shows a pound coin fizzing in a glass of water, are understood to be part of a "hard-hitting" campaign by Hammersmith and Fulham Council, who say that 46% of its tenants were in rent arrears.

However, according to a report by the BBC, tenants have criticised the cards as a "'disgusting' move disguised as a festive message".

Cabinet member for housing, Councillor Johnson, has said that the cards are part of an ongoing campaign, that they were "deliberately hard-hitting", but not intended to be insulting.
