Human Remains Found On Beach

Human remains have been found washed up on a beach in Southampton.

The discovery was made around 8.25am on Sunday by a dog walker.

Part of the foreshore at Weston, Southampton was sealed off as a result.

In a statement, Hampshire Constabulary said it is not yet known if the remains are male or female. They have now been removed to a hospital and a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.

A spokesperson added that local missing persons records are also being searched as officers try to identify the victim.

They added: "Whilst there is nothing at this time to indicate this is suspicious, officers will keen an open mind until results of the post-mortem are known and whilst inquiries continue.

"Part of the foreshore will remain cordoned off whilst the area is searched. It will be reopened as soon as possible."
