Funerals For Clutha Crash Victims

The first funerals for the Clutha pub victims who were killed in a helicopter crash in Glasgow last month are to take place today, the BBC has reported.

A service for Mark O'Prey, 44, will be held at St Bride's RC Church in East Kilbride, with the funeral of 48-year-old Gary Arthur then taking place at Woodside Crematorium in Paisley.

Both men were customers in The Clutha when a Police Scotland helicopter came down onto the crowded pub. Nine people were killed in the incident.

On Saturday, the funeral for aircraft pilot Captain David Traill was held in Glasgow.

The other crew members who died in the incident were police constables Kirsty Nelis, 36, and Tony Collins, 43. The other six victims were inside the pub. They were Mr O'Prey, Mr Arthur, Robert Jenkins, 61, Colin Gibson, 33, John McGarrigle, 57, and 56-year-old Samuel McGhee.

An investigation into the crash, which happened on 29 November, is currently underway.

Clutha Helicopter Crash: AAIB Find Double Engine Failure
Investigators have found that the helicopter that crashed on to the Clutha pub in Glasgow in November had suffered double engine failure as a result of a fuel supply problem. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) however said that the exact cause of the problem was still unclear.

Ninth Body Found In Pub Helicopter Crash
Police Scotland have confirmed that a further body has been found in the wreckage of a Glasgow pub that was destroyed by a police helicopter. The discovery brings the total number of fatalities to nine. On Friday night, at around 10.25pm, a police helicopter crashed into the Clutha Vaults pub in Glasgow.

M6 Crash Family Funerals To Take Place
Six family members who died in a motorway crash in Cheshire are to be laid to rest today. David Statham, 38 and his 33-year-old wife Michelle were returning to their home in Llandudno, with their four children when they were killed in a five-vehicle pile up. The family were returning from visiting relatives in Birmingham.

Smoking ban to be enforced early at Wetherspoon pubs
Pub chain, J.D. Wetherspoon have announced that they will ban smoking in all their premises by May 2006, two years before the government restrictions are due to come into force. The pub chain, which already offers non-smoking areas in its bars, will also impose a ban in 60 of its 650 UK pubs this year.

Kosovo relatively quiet after funerals for drowned boys
In Kosovo, the funeral for the two children whose deaths sparked off some of most serious ethnic clashes in the region since the civil war, has passed off without incident, the UN has said. Police from the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) reported that the situation in the province was now calm.
