Police Complaint Made Over Alice In Wonderland Mural
A parent has lodged a complaint against a restored Alice in Wonderland mural at an Edinburgh Primary School, calling it racist.
The mural, dating back to 1936, appears on the assembly hall wall at Wardie Primary and was recently restored with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Police in Edinburgh confirmed that they had received a complaint about the Alice in Wonderland scene, which features a golliwog.
It is understood that police are now liaising with Edinburgh City Council education department.
Edinburgh City Council said it understands the offensiveness of the image but said it does not reflect the attitudes of the school.

Businessman Fined Over Damage To Ancient Woods
Natural England has won its case against a businessman in Cumbria who was found to have caused damage to an ancient woodland on his land. Philip Day was order to pay a fine of £450,000 and court fees of £475,000 in connection with the felling of trees and the excavation of land in order to build an access track in Gelt Woods.

Ryanair Postpones Opening Of Edinburgh Base
Low-fares airline Ryanair has been forced to postpone the opening of its new Edinburgh base for six weeks, due to strike action at airplane manufacturer Boeing. Ryanair said that the strike had resulted in Boeing being unable to deliver two 737 planes which the airline had purchased to operate on its new Edinburgh routes.

Police in Edinburgh have renewed an appeal for information after a 21-year-old woman was raped. The woman was attacked in Eyre Place at about 4am on Wednesday, police say. Detectives investigating the attack have said they are still looking for an Asian man, aged 20 to 30, with short dark hair.

An investigation has been launched after a fire in a hospital ward in Edinburgh caused the death of a 75-year-old woman. Police Scotland reported that fire crews were called to Western General Hospital at about 02:28 on Friday morning. A small fire had been discovered in the Royal Victoria building, which specialises in treating the elderly.

Remains Of Baby Found Near Edinburgh Graveyard
Police in Edinburgh have confirmed that remains found next to a cemetery are those of a baby. The discovery was made near Seafield Cemetery and Crematorium on Seafield Road in Leith at around 17:00 on Sunday by a man walking his dog. The scene has remained cordoned off since the discovery and an investigation is underway.
