EDF Latest Energy Company To Announce Price Increase

EDF Energy is to impose a 3.9% increase on its gas and electricity prices, making them the latest of the big six energy companies to announce a price rise.

From January 03, the company's new average standard variable price will increase by £49 to £1,300 a year. The company add that its increase is "half" that of its rivals.

The announcement of therise comes as energy companies prepare to defend price increases in the face of government criticism.

EDF claim that they are currently not passing on the cost of the governments green levies, but warned that further price increases would be needed if the government continued the current level of green levies.

It is understood that the government is reviewing its environmental policy after the prime minister pledged to "roll back" green energy levies.
