Alan Davies Pays Damages Over Lord McAlpine 'Re-Tweet'

Alan Davies has paid damages over a "re-tweet" that linked Tory peer Lord McAlpine to a TV report alleging a senior political figure was a paedophile.

Davies also issued an apology for the "great damage and distress" caused to Lord McAlpine and his family.

Lord McAlpine's solicitor said his client accepted Davies' apology.

Sculptor Sir Anthony Caro Dies Aged 89

British sculptor Sir Anthony Caro has died at the age 89.

Sir Anthony was widely regarded as the greatest British sculptor of his generation and worked as an assistant to Henry Moore in the 1950s.

His family confirmed that he died of a heart attack, leaving behind his wife Sheila Girling, two sons and three grandchildren.

Search Ends For Missing Swimmer

The coastguard has called off the search for a missing swimmer, heard shouting for help in the sea near the Western Arm of Brighton Marina.

A member of the public called 999 after hearing the man shouting for help near the Western Arm of Brighton Marina, just before 2.45pm on Wednesday.

The RNLI lifeboat was dispatched but the man had disappeared under water.

Emergency services spent the afternoon searching the scene but scaled it down as darkness fell.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) initially said the search would resume at first light but a spokesman said it was now a missing person inquiry being handled by police.

High Court Rules Sally Bercow's Lord McAlpine Tweet Libellous
The High Court has ruled that a tweet by Sally Bercow about Lord McAlpine was libellous. Mrs Bercow, the wife of the Commons Speaker, said she was "disappointed" by the ruling. The message was published on 4th November last year amid a Newsnight broadcast. She tweeted: “Why is Lord McAlpine trending? *innocent face*.

BBC To Reach Settlement With Lord McAlpine
Tory peer Lord McAlpine has spoken of his anger after a BBC Newsnight report led to him being wrongly implicated in child abuse allegations. The former Conservative party treasurer told BBC Radio 4's The World at One he should have been contacted beforehand.

Body found at RAF base is identified
The body, which was discovered at RAF Marham, King's Lynn in Norfolk, on Saturday, has been identified. The man who died was 22-year-old Corporal Mark Sellars. Mr Sellars was an RAF Policeman and was single. Norfolk Constabulary are undertaking an inquiring into Corporal Sellars' death, but have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances.

BBC And McAlpine Agree £185,000 Settlement
The BBC has agreed a damages settlement of £185,000 with Lord McAlpine following the Newsnight broadcast on 2 November that wrongly linked the former Conservative party treasurer to historic allegations child sexual abuse.
