University Staff To Hold One-Day Strike

The University and College Union (UCU), Unison and Unite have announced that university staff will hold a one-day strike at the end of October in a dispute over pay.

The unions claim that the offer of a 1% pay rise for all staff, including lecturers, technicians and administration workers, represents an overall 13% pay cut since October 2008.

University representative body the Universities and Colleges Employers Association said they were disappointed by the news of the strike.

The announcement comes as the National Union of Teachers and the NASUWT continue regional strike action in their ongoing row over pay, pensions and workload.
