ONS Figures Show Fall In Jobless Total
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the total number of unemployed now stands at 2.49 million, after falling by 18,000 in the period of June-August.
However, the unemployment rate remains unchanged at 7.7% when compared to the previous three month period.
The unemployment rate has been given extra significance since the Bank of England announced that it would not considering raising the interest rate until it falls to 7%.
The ONS figures also show that the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance fell by 47,700 last month, now standing at 1.35 million.
There was also a rise in the number of people in work, both full and part-time, up by 155,000 to 29.87 million.

Jobless figures continue to fall
The number of unemployed people in the UK is continuing to fall, but the employment rate has remained unchanged and the number of people claiming benefits has increased. According to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), the working age employment rate fell by 0.3% to 74.7% between March and May 2005.

Inflation At 5% But Expected To Drop 'Sharply'
This month's official inflation figures are still more than double the 'target rate' of 2%, although it is expected to drop "sharply", according to the Bank of England. The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) in the UK fell slightly to 5% during October, down from a rate of 5.2% the month before.

Third annual fall recorded in migration to UK
The number of people migrating to the UK has fallen for the third year running, according to statistics released today. New international migration estimates published today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) found that overall 151,000 more people migrated to the UK than leaving it in 2003.

Unemployment dips to two-year low in UK
The UK’s unemployment rate is now at a two-year low, according to the latest figures released from the Office of National Statistics (ONS). Data for the three months to June showed that the unemployment stood at 1.46 million, a fall of 0.1% to 5%.
