Police Say Madeline Crimewatch Response "Overwhelming"

Officers leading the fresh investigation into the disappearance of Madeline McCann have described the response to a recent BBC Crimewatch appeal as "overwhelming".

It is understood that over 1,000 calls and emails were received following the broadcast on Monday evening, with a number of people suggesting the same name as the identity of an e-fit suspect shown.

Police renewed an investigation into Madeline's 2007 disappearance from a holiday resort in Portugal.

It is understood that police now think the abduction showed signs of being pre-planned.

Police are now following up the lines of inquiry provided by the phone calls and emails.
