Improvements For Welsh Rail Stations
Work has commenced on a £600,000 project to install new passenger shelters at rail stations across south Wales.
Pyle Station will be the first to receive the new shelters, with a total of 21 to be installed at 18 locations by the end of November 2013.
The work is part of the Welsh Government's continuing Wales Station Improvement Programme, which aims to improve the standard of stations in the country.
Aberdare, Cwmbach, Ewenny Road, Fernhill, Garth, Llwynypia, Maesteg, Pencoed (2), Penrhiwceiber, Pontypool & New Inn, Sarn, Treherbert, Troedyrhiw, Tonypandy, Wildmill, Ynyswen and Ystrad Rhondda (2).
Transport Minister, Edwina Hart said: "This investment is part of our ongoing efforts to improve the standard of rail stations across Wales through our station improvement programme.
"We want to make our rail stations more accessible and pleasant experience for passengers to encourage more use of rail services to access jobs, shops and reduce reliance on the car."

Legal Action Taken Over Cumbrian Rail Crash
It has been revealed that Network rail is to be prosecuted over the Cumbrian rail crash back in 2007, which claimed one life. The rail regulation body, The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) has said that they have started legal proceedings against Network Rail for a breach of health and safety law.

High Speed Rail Network Gets Backing
A government committee has announced that a high-speed rail link between London and Birmingham has a "good case". The announcement comes after the Government carried out a public consultation on the proposal and the recommended route for an initial high-speed line from London to the West Midlands.

Firms accept liability for Potters Bar rail crash
In a joint statement made today Network Rail and Jarvis plc have formally accepted liability for the 2002 Potters Bar rail crash. Network Rail and Jarvis said they hoped that by "formalising the liability issue, those affected by the tragedy will gain some level of comfort and assistance".

New Essex Power Station Gets Underway
The UK Energy Minister Charles Hendry has given the go-ahead for InterGen’s proposals to construct a new 900MW gas power plant at the London Gateway Logistics Park, Coryton, Essex. The plans are for a new £600 million power station comprising of up to two CCGT generating units, each around 450MW in capacity.
