Children's TV Programmes Should Air After 7pm
A report by the BBC Trust has said the BBC should consider showing children's television programmes after 7pm.
It stated that, following a review of CBBC and Cbeebies, "some 4.5 million 4-to-12 year olds" watch TV after 7pm, the time at which the channels come off air, adding that shows aimed at older children on BBC One or BBC Two could "help extend" the "impact of high-quality programmes".
Overall, the report found that CBBC and CBeebies were "performing well", with both parents and children enjoying the channels.
More than 8,000 6-to-12 year olds sent their views to the BBC Trust as well as 2,700 parents or carers.
CBeebies was praised by parents for its "high-quality content and its focus on learning and development" while CBBC was hailed for its "distinctive content and the balance it provides between education and entertainment". However, it did reveal that older children were less inclined to watch CBBC or CBeebies, and that CBBC struggled to gain younger viewers moving on from CBeebies. This is similar to the result of the previous review into children's services in 2009.
The Trust said it supported the BBC's plans to address these concerns by "commissioning more content for older children" and with both channels working together to "provide a more joined-up offer".
The report also looked at the organisation's radio and online content for children.
It is carried out as part of the BBC Trust's remit to review BBC services at least once every five years.

Ten Suspected Drug Dealers Arrested
A major police operation has seen officers swoop on suspected drug dealers and gang members in Wolverhampton as part of a campaign to clean up the city's streets.
Almost 300 officers gathered ahead of the operation in Birmingham before travelling to Wolverhampton and mounting dawn raids on 15 addresses in specific parts of the city.
Tuesday's raids saw 10 people arrested and their homes extensively searched.
Nine men and one woman have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and have been taken into custody to be interviewed by police.
The operation, called 'Wolverhampton No Deal', has been a result of almost 12 months planning and is based on significant and extensive information collated by a dedicated team of officers.
Following a series of shootings in the city last year by suspected rival gang members, police launched a huge intelligence gathering exercise and undercover policing targeting a number of people.
Wolverhampton Police Detective Chief Inspector Paul Drover said: "Today's action is just the next step of our efforts together with key partners in Wolverhampton to tackle drugs and gangs in our neighbourhoods. We know how damaging drug use and gangs can have on communities.
"The issue of drug dealing and use comes up time and time again in a lot of community meetings and in discussions that local officers have with local people. We have spent a considerable amount of time collecting all the information available to us."
Anyone who may have information relating to drug dealing in their area should contact their local officers on 101. Alternatively, anyone who does not wish to speak to police can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111.
