Briton Jailed In US Over Child Kidnap And Murder Plot
A 40-year-old British man has been jailed in the US over a plot to kidnap, rape, kill and eat a child.
Geoffrey Portway was jailed for 26 years and eight months after pleading guilty to soliciting the kidnap of a child and distribution and possession of child pornography.
When authorities raided the house in 2012, it was discovered that Portway had installed a steel cage and made a coffin at his home in Massachusetts.
The investigation led to the discovery that Portway had been communicating online with an American man, Michael Arnett, for several months discussing a plan to kidnap a child.
American authorities claimed that Portway had been seeking help with child abduction as far back as 2010 and had eventually been put in contact with Arnett.
It was revealed that the two men had discussed real children by name and had exchange pictures.
Portway was also found to be in possession of more than 20,000 images and videos of child abuse.
Under the terms of Portway's sentence, he will serve between 216 and 327 months before being deported back to the UK.

More people are calling the NSPCC Helpline about serious child abuse since the death of Baby Peter two years ago. Between April 2008 and March 2009, the 24-hour freephone service passed on 11,243 suspected child protection cases to police or social services - an increase of more than a third over two years.

Report notes increase in child porn sites
The number of child porn sites reported to police has increased by almost 80%, a new report has revealed. The report, by the Internet Watch Foundation, said that public intolerance of child abuse sites and the development of new skills aimed at tackling the distribution of such images had led to the increase in reports.
