England Fans Injured In Knife Attack

A number of England football fans have been attacked in Kiev ahead of the team's World Cup qualifier game against the Ukraine, local media has claimed.

The Komsomolskaya Pravda said around 30 hooded Ukrainians – armed with knives – were fighting with England supporters in a coffee shop.

The attackers then fled the scene. No arrests have been made.

An amateur video appears to show one of the injured men lying on the pavement with other people attending to him while police and ambulances arrived.

Following the attack, three England fans were taken to hospital. One is understood to have a stab wound, one suffered a head injury and the other has severe bruising.

They have since been released from hospital but have chosen not to help police with the investigation.

A statement from the Foreign Office said: "We are aware of incidents in Kiev involving British nationals. We are providing consular assistance."

England face the Ukraine in Kiev's Olympic Stadium on Tuesday night and the British police delegation in Kiev for the match has warned fans to be cautious in the city before and after the game.
