MPs Group Critical Of Rising Costs Of HS2 Rail Link
A group of MPs have said that any benefits estimated to be generated by the HS2 high-speed rail link are being undermined by the increasing costs of the project.
The Department for Transport are failing to present a "convincing strategic case", according to the Public Accounts Committee, who have said that the proposed rail plan was based on "fragile numbers, out-of-date data and assumptions which do not reflect real life".
The committee went on to say that the was no evidence that the line would help the growth of regional cities, but would instead see even more business drawn to London.
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin however, insists that the case for HS2 is "absolutely clear".
