Lowest Bidder Legal Aid Plan Scrapped

The Justice Secretary has dropped a plan to award legal aid contracts to the lowest bidder.

News of the u-turn came in an interview with The Times, in which Chris Grayling said the plan had changed following an agreement with the Law Society for England and Wales.

Other legal cuts are still due to go ahead.

Opponents to the proposed price competitive tendering had argued that it would damage the criminal justice system.
