Woman Seriously Injured By Horse-Drawn Tram

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has launched an investigation after a woman was seriously injured after being run over by a horse-drawn tram on Monday.

The accident happened at the Middleton Railway Festival of Transport in Leeds when a groom leading four horses at the head of the restored tram became trapped under its wheels.

The tram was making its first outing in 112 years since being restored.

The victim was taken to Leeds General Infirmary and is understood to have undergone surgery on serious injuries to her legs.

Her current condition is unknown.

Seven holidaymakers die in motorway smash

Shadow Chancellor Fined For Failing To Stop After An Accident
Leeds Magistrates Court has fined shadow chancellor Ed Balls £900 for failing to stop after a a car crash in April. According to a report by the BBC, Mr Balls was fined and given five penalty points for driving away after his car hit a parked car outside Labour's Unity Club in Morley, West Yorkshire on 05 April.

The funerals of two of the Northern Ireland victims of the Cork air crash are due to be held later today. Pat Cullinan, a 45-year-old senior partner with the international accountancy firm KPMG, is to be buried after requiem mass in St Patrick's Church in the village of Cranagh near Plumbridge in Co Tyrone.

Former KGB colonel Alexander Litvinenko remains seriously ill in hospital after apparently being poisoned, amid claims that he recently received email death threats. On Tuesday, Italian Mario Scaramella said that he met with Mr Litvinenko on November 1, when he first fell ill, and that both had discussed email death threats.

Food firms 'not taking health seriously enough'
The world's top 25 food companies are not taking health seriously enough, a new report has claimed. The report, by researchers at London's City University, examined how the companies were addressing World Health Organisation guidelines on tackling obesity, heart disease, cancers and diabetes.
