'Bomb Detector' Businessman Jailed
A British businessman has been jailed for seven years for selling fake bomb detectors.
47-year-old Gary Bolton, of Redshank Road, Chatham, was convicted of two counts of fraud over the sale of homemade "bomb detectors", which the judge described as "useless" and "dross".
It was claimed that Bolton knew the devices, which could also allegedly detect drugs, tobacco, ivory and cash, did not work but continued to manufacture them for sale to overseas clients.
His company, Global Technology Ltd, reportedly had an annual turnover of £3m.The units, which where made at Bolton's home, sold for up to £10,000 a piece.
The court heard that a customer had x-rayed one of Bolton's devices and found that it had nothing inside it.
