Best July Retail Results Since 2007

July saw the fastest retail growth in seven years, thanks to the heatwave, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) has said.

July was also the third successive month of growth, according to the BRC.

Like-for-like sales increased by 2.2% compared to the same period last year, figures from the BRG show.

Online sales also increased by 7.9%, which the BRC say is actually comparatively slow and highlights the effect of the recent good weather attracting people back out onto the High Street.

The best sales results where seen in food and drink purchases, with health and beauty products also showing significant gains.

Sales of books however were significantly lower than the same period the year before, however this is said to have been effected by the lack of a "blockbuster". Last years figures being buoyed by the release of 50 Shade of Grey.
