£1.2m Stolen Stradivarius Recovered

A 300-year-old Stradivarius violin, stolen from a sandwich shop in Euston Station, North London, more than two years ago, has been recovered.

The instrument, valued at £1.2m and stolen from internationally-renowned violinist, Min-Jin Kym, was uncovered at a house in the Midlands, British Transport Police have said.

It is understood that despite some minor damage, the instrument is intact.

In 2011, a man and two teenagers were convicted of the theft, which included a Peccatte bow worth £62,000 and a School of Bazin bow worth £5,000, but none of the stolen items where recovered.

The instrument has now been returned to Lark Insurance Broking Group, who had paid out following the theft, but it is understood that discussions are under way for it to be returned to Ms Kym soon, a police spokesman has said.

Police say they cannot comment on where the instrument was recovered from, as the moving of the violin to the Midlands is part of another ongoing police inquiry.
