MPs Warn Of Failures In Criminal Justice If Forensics Decline

A committee of MPs has warned the government to support forensic science or risk major crimes going unsolved.

The warning comes following the closure of the Forensic Science Service (FSS), whose roll is now handled by in-house police labs and private firms.

A report from the Science and Technology Committee warns of "chaotic new landscape" and says private firms will need help in an unstable market.

It goes on to say that the criminal justice system could be in jeopardy unless the government establishes a strategy for forensic science.
