West London Woman Dies Aged 115

Sant Kaur Bajwa, believed to be the UK's oldest person, has died.

Ms Bajwa, from Southall, west London, was born in Pakistan on January 01, 1898, according to her passport, making her 115 and 199 days old when she died.

It has not been officially verified that Ms Bajwa was the UK's oldest person, as the Guinness World Records need a passport and birth certificate to verify the claim.

According to Guinness World Records the UK's oldest person is Grace Jones who is 113.

Man Booker Long List Revealed

The long list for the 2013 Man Booker prize has been revealed, described by chair of the judges, Robert Macfarlane, as, "surely the most diverse long list in Man Booker history".

The long list of authors and titles is:

• NoViolet Bulawayo (We Need New Names)

• Eleanor Catton (The Luminaries)

• Jim Crace (Harvest)

• Eve Harris (The Marrying of Chain Kaufman)

• Richard House (The Kills)

• Jhumpa Lahiri (The Lowland)

• Alison MacLeod (Unexploded)

• Colum McCann (Transatlantic)

• Charlotte Mendelson (Almost English)

• Ruth Ozeki (A Tale for the Time Being)

• Donal Ryan (The Spinning Heart)

• Colm Toibin (The Testament of Mary)

The shortlist of six will be unveiled on 10 September, and the £50,000 prize winner on 15 October.

London Uni's Top Crime Level Study

A ranking of crime rates around UK universities in England and Wales as been topped by King's College London.

The study shows the levels of burglary, robbery, and "violent crimes" near universities; Aberystwyth has the lowest crime level.

Outside London, Hull has the highest local crime rate outside London, with Durham and Winchester among the lowest.

Man Jailed For Attempted Murder Of Pc
A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Survey reveals falling level of some crimes
The overall crime rate in England and Wales is continuing to fall, according to the results of the British Crime Survey (BCS). The survey showed that the overall crime rate fell by 11%, in the year ending September 2004.

Bodies Identified Following Deaths In East London
Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating following the discovery of a woman's body in east London. Officers entered an address in Brymay Close at 6.54am on Tuesday 26 April and discovered the woman, believed to be in her late 20s. She had suffered stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prolific Burglar To Serve At Least Five Years
A burglar who had absconded from a secure unit whilst serving a sentence for a previous armed burglary was jailed for a minimum of five years and ten months on Friday 7 May. Ashley Waterman, 21, was given an Indeterminate Sentence for Public Protection for six burglary offences committed while on the run.
