Child-killer Bell wins anonymity case
Child-killer Mary Bell has been granted anonymity for life following proceedings at the High Court today.
Bell applied for leave to grant anonymity to ensure that neither she nor her daughter would not be targeted were their identities to become public.
The judge ruled today that under human rights legislation, and in view of the precedent set for the underage killers of James Bulger, both Bell and her daughter should remain anonymous.
In 1968, when she was just 11-years-old, Mary Bell was convicted of murdering Martin Brown (4) and Brian Howe (3) close to their Newcastle homes. She was released in 1980 and has assumed a number of aliases since.
Bell's lawyers had argued that she could be subjected to harassment if the order was lifted.
