1,000 New Jobs As Bentley Develop New SUV

The development of a new luxury car by car maker Bentley will see some 1,000 new jobs created in the UK.

The manufacturers headquarters in Crewe will receive investment of £800 million to develop and build a new sports utility vehicle (SUV).

It is understood that the government lobbied to keep the manufacturing of the new car in the UK after Bentley's owner, Volkswagen, initially considered making the car in Slovakia, where it already builds SUVs.

Speaking at the announcement of the new vehicle at Bentley's headquarters, David Cameron said: "I am delighted that Bentley will be building their new vehicle here, not only creating a thousand jobs, but safeguarding many more, as well as increasing training opportunities for highly skilled apprentices."
