Orange Order Parade Request Turned Down

The Parades Commission in Northern Ireland has refused an Orange Order request for a contentious parade on Saturday.

The Order requested permission to march along a stretch of road they had been banned from marching on on July 12.

Saturday's proposed parade would have walked along a stretch of road that separates loyalist and nationalist communities.

The proposed march would leave from the loyalist Shankill area and march to Ligoniel. On its route it would pass the Ardoyne shops on the Crumlin Road, which is the same stretch of road marchers were banned from using on 12 July.

The has been nightly riots in north Belfast since the 12 July, despite the Orange Order saying that it was suspending its protest over the banned march.
