Acute Oak Decline Spreading Across Britain
A £1.1 million research drive is underway into a mysterious disease, estimated to be affecting thousands of oak trees across Britain.
Acute Oak Decline, which causes weeping patches or stem bleeding, in which a dark fluid seeps from splits in the tree, is said to be spreading, but currently it is not known how or why.
As the cause is unknown, there is no plan in place to tackle the disease and trees are left to die.
The public is being urged to report any suspected cases using a Tree Alert app available from the Forestry Commission.
Fresh Allegations Made Against Stuart Hall
New allegations have been made against ex-BBC presenter Stuart Hall.
Hall was jailed last month for sexually abusing girls aged between 9 and 17. He was sentenced to 15-months, which is currently being reviewed following complaints of leniency.
It is understood that fresh allegations have been made against Hall and Lancashire Police are working with Crown Prosecution Service to determine the appropriate course of action.
Tax Affairs Od Prince Charles To Be Examined
An influential group of MPs are to examine the tax affairs of the Prince of Wales and the Duchy of Cornwall.
It is understood the committee will be looking at whether Prince Charles is paying his fair share of tax alongside looking at why the Duchy does not pay corporation or capital gain tax.
The Duchy of Cornwall provides the heir to the throne with a private income.
Royal officials argue the duchy is a private landed estate, not a corporation or a public body, so it is exempt from capital gains tax.
They also say Charles pays income tax on the money he receives from the hereditary estate after business expenses have been deducted.
This is only the second time that Royal accounts have been looked at.
