UK Troops In Afghanistan To Be Reduced Again By Autumn
The defence secretary has confirmed the number of UK troops in Afghanistan will be reduced to around 6,000 by autumn.
Philip Hammond made the announcement in a written statement, saying that the reduction was "in line" with the government's previously stated aim to cut troop levels to 5,200 by the end of 2013.
The UK currently has about 7,900 troops stationed in Afghanistan.
'Stolen' Kittens Found In Bedroom
A police hunt for three kittens, thought to be stolen, ended when they were found in their owners bedroom.
Essex police had appealed to the public for information after it was reported to them that intruders had broken into a house in Barnston, Essex.
Police confirmed that the kittens had been found behind a bedroom unit.
The cat owners will not face any action over wasting police time.
Sir Elton 'Lucky To Be Alive'
After performing 10 concerts "in agony", Sir Elton John has been diagnosed with appendicitis.
According to The Sun, Sir Elton said he was "lucky to be alive", adding: "I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time."
According to his website, he is on a course of "intensive antibiotics" and is expected to undergo surgery "in the coming weeks".

Australia to send more troops to Iraq
Australian Prime Minister John Howard has announced plans to send more Australian troops to Iraq. Speaking in Canberra today, Mr Howard announced that an extra 450 Australian troops will be sent to Iraq, to protect Japanese engineers working in the al-Muthanna province in the south of the country.

Nato reinforcements arrive in Kosovo
As the initial deployments of additional KFOR troops arrive in the region, the Nato Council was meeting again today to re-assess the security situation in Kosovo. In an effort to bring the outbreak of ethnic violence under control as quickly as possible, additional troops from the operational and strategic reserve were being deployed.

Teenagers Found "Safe And Well"
Police have found two teenager with learning difficulties who went missing in Glasgow. Reece Allen, 15, and Kelvin Conway, 19, disappeared on Saturday evening from Morion Road, Knightswood. Strathclyde Police found Reece in the city on Sunday evening. Kelvin was discovered in the city centre on Monday at around 11.

Sir Elton John owns a photograph seized from a Tyneside art gallery in a child pornography investigation, it has emerged. The photograph - 'Klara and Edda belly-dancing' by Nan Goldin - was seized by Northumbria Police from the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead last Thursday, amid fears that it breached child pornography laws.

The British army should be restructured to allow soldiers more time with their families, according to the head of the armed forces. General Sir Richard Dannatt said the wars in Iraq in Afghanistan have overstretched personnel, and called for almost 10,000 more troops to be recruited.
