Police Renew Investigation Into Madeleine McCann Disappearance
A formal investigation of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is underway following the discovery of new evidence and new witnesses, the Metropolitan Police has announced.
A review of the case, said to have been approached with "new thinking", has renewed the investigation, which is now looking at 38 "persons of interest".
Portuguese police dropped the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance in 2008.
Madeleine was almost four-years-old when she went missing in Portugal in 2007.
A review of the case was launched in 2011, after Gerry and Kate McCann, Madeleine's parents, sent a plea to the prime minister.
The move from review to investigation has been described as "a big step forward".
