Report Finds Rise In Sharing Of Child Abuse Images

Some 70,000 still and video images of child sex abuse were shared online in 2012, according to a new report from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP).

The centre received 8,000 reports of the shared material, an almost two-fold increase on previous years.

Live streaming of child abuse via webcams has been identified as a growing method for offenders to share material.

Concerns have also been raised over the number of people accessing the internet via private encrypted networks, with CEOP reporting that some 20,000 people are expected to be going online this way by the end of 2013.

The report, Threat Assessment of Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, also highlights an increase in the number of children being abused overseas by British nationals.

The centres full report and findings can be found on their website.
