Hamilton rape-claim woman found guilty

The woman who alleged that Neil and Christine Hamilton raped her has been found guilty on two counts of perverting the course of justice.

Nadine Milroy-Sloan (29), a trainee lecturer from Grimsby in Lincolnshire, had denied the charges, though she apologised to the Hamiltons saying that she might have been mistaken.

She had claimed that she had been attacked in May 2001 by two men and a woman and that the Hamiltons were present at the time.

However, in a subsequent police investigation the Hamiltons and 62-year-old Barry Lehaney were cleared of any involvement.

The prosecution contended that Milroy-Sloan had not been raped and that the “fantasy” story had been concocted to earn her fame and money.

Following the verdict, Christine Hamilton said she was relieved that the two-year nightmare had ended and called for legislation to protect the anonymity of those accused of rape.

Milroy-Sloan will be sentenced on June 13.
