Pickles Praises Council Tax Five-Year Freeze
The spending commitments announced by the government today will put families first with two more years of Council Tax freeze and an improvement to the way services are delivered. This will include a new £2bn investment to help local authorities meet adult social care that will help save more taxpayers' money in the long term.
The package of measures announced for local government will encourage more joint working between councils themselves and between local government and central government.
Mr Pickles said: "This is an important step towards achieving a seamless transition between health and social care. For the last 30 years all too often the care home, social services, and the local GP haven't been working together to prevent unplanned hospitalisation of elderly or vulnerable people. This £3.8 billion has the potential to transform adult health care reducing unnecessary distress and stopping taxpayer money from being wasted."
Funding Announced For S4C
Secretary of State for Wales, David Jones has greeted the safeguarding of funding for S4C as a significant signal of the UK Government's continued staunch support for the Welsh language broadcaster.
Mr Jones said: "Today's announcement further reinforces this Government's commitment to a strong and independent Welsh language TV service.
"S4C has, undeniably, made an enormous contribution towards the creative industries in Wales, and crucially, to promoting the Welsh language. Indeed, it is the only Welsh language channel in the world.
"The Chancellor has recognised the importance the people of Wales place upon S4C, and has secured its funding for 2015/16."
