2017 Uk City Of Culture Shortlist Unveiled

The shortlist for the UK's second City of Culture, to be awarded for 2017, has been revealed.

The contenders are: Dundee, Hull, Leicester and Swansea Bay

11 bidders applied for the honour, which is currently held by Derry~Londonderry.

Ballet Dancer David Wall Dies Aged 67

Ballet dancer David Wall has died of cancer aged 67.

At the age of 21, Wall became the youngest male principal in the histpry of the Royal Ballet.

Wall died at his family home in Croydon, south London, on Tuesday.

Religious Pledge Changed In Guides Oath

The pledge, "to love my god" has been dropped from the oath sworn by Guides and Brownies in the UK.

The removal follows a consultation undertaken by Girlguiding UK.

The new oath drops the reference for the first time since Guides began in 1910 and will see them promise to "be true to myself and develop my beliefs".

Basra Memorial Wall Moves To UK
A service to re-dedicate the Basra Memorial Wall will take place on 11 March at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, the Ministry of Defence confirmed today. The monument honours the 178 UK service personnel and one MOD civilian who lost their lives serving on Operation TELIC.

UK Scout Association Considers Atheist Oath
A consultation has been launched by the UK Scout Association to see if members would back a Scout Promise for those who feel unable to pledge a "duty to God". Versions of the oath already exist for the Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist faiths, but this is the first time an alternative oath for atheists has been considered.
