Portrait Of Queen Vandalised

A vandal has defaced a portrait of the Queen displayed in Westminster Abbey.

It is understood that the oil on canvas, by Ralph Heimans, was attacked with spray paint.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

Three Arrested For Trespass Over Parliment Protest

Three people have been arrested in connection with a protest against a visit to parliament by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper

It is understood that protesters got on to the roof of parliament to protest Canada's extraction of oil from its tar sands.

Number Of People Involved In Weekly Sport Falls By 200,000

200,000 less people participate in any form of weekly sport, Sport England has reported.

For the year to April 2013 15.3 million people took part in a weekly sport, down from 15.5 million reported in October.

However, there are still 1.4 million more people playing sport than when London won the Olympic bid in 2005.

'Tombstoning' Man Breaks Neck
A 20-year-old man who was injured while allegedly taking part in the extreme sport craze 'tombstoning' may never walk again. Sonny Wells from Waterlooville, Hampshire was airlifted to hospital on Sunday after diving into shallow water from a pier at Southsea, Hants. Reports have suggested the water may have been as shallow as three feet.

Libel case win for Steven Gerrard
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has won his libel case against a magazine which claimed that the football star was considering a move to Spanish club Real Madrid. Gerrard was awarded undisclosed damages against London Sport Magazine, which made the claims in an article in January.

Over 2,000 People Use 'Help To Buy' Scheme
More than 2,000 people have put in offers on homes under the Help to Buy scheme, totalling £365 million of new mortgage lending. The applications are backed by a 'decision in principle' by RBS and Lloyds, the first two participating banks, for 95 per cent mortgages. Ten of the 2,384 applications have already completed.

Widespread Use Of Aspirin Slammed
A new study in The Lancet medical journal has found that healthy people who take aspirin reduced their already small risk of heart attack or stroke by just 12%. However, the small risk of internal bleeding increased by a third.

50 People Arrested During Protest March In London
Police arrested 50 people last night following an anti-capitalist protest in London. 48 suspects remain in custody while one person has been charged with assaulting a police officer and another received a caution. Large crowds gathered to take part in the Million Mask March on 05 November.
