Britvic And AG Barr Merger Given Provisional Approval
The proposed merger of Britvic and AG Barr has been provisionally approved by the Competition Commission.
Ahead of its final report, due to be published in July, the commission said the potential merger would not significantly effect wholesale prices or harm competition.
Britvic, which manufactures brands including Tango and Robinsons, and AG Barr, makers of Irn Bru and Orangina, were found by the commission to not be close competitors.
An investigation by the commission found that two companies were not close competitors.
The merger of the two companies was first proposed in September 2012 and the firms have been waiting on approval from the Competition Commission since. Both companies say they will continue to cooperate with the commission ahead of the publication of its final decision.
