Private Equity Firm Buys Vue Cinema Chain
The Vue cinema chain has been sold for £935 million to a private equity firm in Canada.
OMERS Private Equity and Alberta Investment Management bought the chain of 146 UK and European cinemas from Doughty Hanson, who had bought the chain in 2010 for £450.
It is understood that the cinema’s current management will remain in place, and it is expect the chains recent expansion will continue.

Sainsbury's buys over leading regional store chain
Sainsbury's has bought over a leading regional convenience store chain, with its 114 outlets, it has been announced today. In taking over Jacksons, Sainsburys boosts its regional presence to 250 stores; comprising 67 Sainsbury’s Locals, 54 Bells Stores, and a further 22 in partnership with Shell UK.

Drop In UK House Prices Between August And September
The rise of UK house prices in the year to September has slowed down, according to research from Halifax. In its annual house price index, the banking chain reported house prices were 8.6% higher than in the same three months last year. Overall, the figure is 2% higher than between July and September, yet lower than the 9% rise recorded in August.

Clothing retailer Peacocks is in talks with lenders regarding restructuring debts of around £240m. If the Cardiff-based company's negotiations fail administration is a possibility. The discount clothing store, which owns the Bonmarché chain, employs thousands across the UK and beyond.

Minor op death linked to ‘system neglect’
An inquest jury, returning a verdict of accidental death, has found that the death of a nine-year-old boy was contributed to by “system neglect”. Tony Clowes died during a routine operation on a finger injury at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford in 2001.
