60,000 Support Petition For Bravery Medal For Woolwich Women
An online petition, calling on the government to honour the three woman who tended to Lee Rigby as he lay in the street after being attacked with cleavers, has been signed by over 60,000 people.
The petition is addressed to defence secretary Philip Hammond and calls for the women, who comforted Mr Rigby as he lay in the road fatally injured and engaged the attackers in an effort to stop anyone else being hurt, to be awarded the George Medal, which recognises civilians for deeds of heroism.
The three woman are Ingrid Loyau-Kennett, Amanda Donnelly and her daughter, Gemini Donnelly-Martin. The petition has been orgainsed by Rev Jesse van der Valk, rector of the two Anglican churches in Woolwich.

UK To Accept 20,000 Refugees From Syria
Prime Minister David Cameron has outlined his plans to accept more refugees into the UK from Syria. Last week, he confirmed the UK would resettle "thousands" more refugees in the country, but had declined to give a specific number. He revealed further details today, 7 September, as MPs returned to Parliament from their summer recess.

An elderly woman suffered a broken nose when she was thrown to the floor by robbers as she walked home from the shops. The 78-year-old woman was recovering in hospital today after the ordeal in a busy Solihull street yesterday morning.

A survey carried out by parenting forum Mumsnet has called for sales reps to be banned from maternity wards in the UK. 82% of those who reponded to the survey said that reps from the promotion company Bounty, should not be given access to new mothers on maternity wards.

Warning Issued After Man And Woman Impersonate Police Officers
Avon and Somerset Police have urged people to be vigilant following reports of people impersonating police offices in South Bristol. Police said they received a report of a man and a woman calling at a house in Claypiece Road, Hartcliffe, at about 01:15 on Thursday, 17 September, claiming to be police officers.

Church Asked To Support Fast-Track Women Bishops Law
The first woman bishop in the Church of England could be appointed by Christmas. The general synod supports the legislation to fast-track the revision of the latest proposals and to reduce the time given to individual dioceses. This could lead to a final vote in July with the legislation approved by November.
