Lib Dem Whip Resigns Over Sex Case Allegations

The Liberal Democrat party whip has stepped down following allegations of "inappropriate behaviour".

A female constituent has named Mike Hancock, MP for Portsmouth South, in a High Court civil action alleging "inappropriate behaviour".

It is understood that party leader Nick Clegg had been considered suspending Mr Hancock, but the MP offered to temporarily resign until the conclusion of the court case.

Mr Hancock said he "completely refuted" the claims and was "vigorously" defending himself.
