GP Inspector Role To Be Created
A lack of confidence in GPs means more people turn to A&E, with the knock-on effect of these departments struggling to cope with the numbers, health secretary Jeremy Hunt is expected to say.
According to the BBC he will make the comments when he announces the appointment of a new chief inspector of GPs at an event in London on Thursday.
The heath secretary is expected to link the problems currently being faced in A&E departments with the way GPs work.
It follows a warning by doctors and managers last week, who cautioned that the A&E system was on the brink of collapse.
When he announces the new inspector role he is expected to say focus on GP care needs to be renewed.
