Work Programme 'Not Helping' Most Disadvantaged

The governments Work Programme is not helping the most disadvantaged jobseekers, a report by the Work and Pensions Committee has said.

The aim of the work programme is to help people out of work for more than a year find employments.

18 main contractors run the scheme alongside hundreds of smaller sub-contractors, usually made up from the voluntary and community sectors.

The providers are paid by results, earning more from people considered more difficult to place in a job.

Despite this, the report says there is “growing evidence” of these people being “parked”

The report did praise how quickly the scheme had been established following the tender period and highlighted that improvements had been made following initially disappointing results regarding mainstream jobless.
