Second Body Found In Newark House Blast
A man and woman have died after a gas explosion at a home in Nottinghamshire.
The explosion happened shortly before 5.15pm on Sunday evening at a house in Wright Street.
Four people were taken to hospital following the incident, with two children and a woman taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre for treatment for smoke inhalation. They have since been discharged. A man also sustained serious injuries and smoke inhalation and is still in hospital.
Just after midnight, police confirmed the body of a man had been found at the scene. Nottinghamshire Police added that a second body, believed to be a woman, had also been found in the rubble, but attempts to recover the body would take place later.
A controlled demolition is to be carried out, as the property is not considered safe.
Neighbours have said the property was occupied by a couple and a small child.
More than 100 people were evacuated from nearby homes as a precaution following the blast and a rest centre was set up at the Grove Leisure Centre. Work is currently ongoing with the local council and partners to manage their needs.
A number of roads remain closed off in the immediate vicinity and diversions are in place.
