Possible Severn Trent Takeover News Drives Up Share Prices

A potential takeover bid has been made to Severn Trent, valuing the company at up to £5bn.

The water company, which serves the water and sewerage needs of some 4.2m households and businesses in the UK, have been approached by a consortium made up of the state of Kuwait’s investment arm, a Canadian infrastructure investor and one of the UK's largest pension funds.

An official offer has not yet been made, but news of the interest has resulted in an increase in the water company’s share price, rising 18% to £21.60.

It is understood that a deadline of 11 June will be put in place for the consortium to make an offer, if it is going to.
