Ofsted Unveil Tougher Nursery And Childminder Inspections
Ofsted have announced new proposals that will see tougher inspections for nurseries and childminders in.
The proposals, which will include childcare providers currently classed as "satisfactory" will be dubbed "requiring improvement" and undergoing extra inspections, follow concerns that nurseries, particularly in deprived areas, are not improving fast enough.
Similar changes were also made to school inspection ratings last year.
Ofsted figures for 2012 reveal that 62% of England’s nurseries and childminders were judged "good", 12% as "outstanding" and 25% "satisfactory". A final 1% were classed as "inadequate".
From September and under the new plans only "good" or better will be deemed acceptable by Ofsted, which the watchdog say "will raise expectations and tackle weaker settings".
