Parents of missing boy appeal for help

The parents of a seven-year-old boy who has been missing since last Saturday have appealed at their son's school for help in tracing him.

David and Paula Entwhistle made the appeal after their son, Daniel, disappeared after going to a shop near his home on Copperfield Avenue, Great Yarmouth, in Norfolk, last Saturday afternoon.

Police have recovered CCTV camera footage from the shop which pinpoints Daniel's whereabouts at 5pm. It is not clear what happened after he left the premises, but police are investigating two unconfirmed sightings of Daniel in the early evening.

A full-scale search involving Suffolk and Norfolk police helicopters, dog handlers and a police diving team, has so far uncovered a bicycle thought to belong to Daniel. It is currently being examined by forensic teams.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Superintendent Julian Gregory said: "Obviously we are very concerned over Daniel's disappearance. Extensive searches of the surrounding area are being made and we would urge anyone with information, no matter how seemingly unimportant, to contact us. Your information could prove vital."

The Yarmouth coastguard and three coastguard vehicles from Lowestoft, Gorleston and Winterton have been searching along the River Yare and Breydon Water.

The Hunstanton RNLI hovercraft at Great Yarmouth was also expected to be launched later today.

When Daniel was first reported as missing, two Coastguard teams and an inshore lifeboat searched along the seafront at Great Yarmouth and along the River Yare.
