Thatcher Tweet Officer Resigns

A police officer has resigned over a tweet he reportedly posted saying he hoped Baroness Thatcher's death was "painful and degrading".

It is understood that Sgt Jeremy Scott of the Metropolitan Police published a number of offensive messages following the former prime minister's death, saying that her death was "87 years too late" and added that the world was a "better place".

The officer’s comments were described as "completely unacceptable" by the Met.

It is understood that Sgt Scott took the matter to the Directorate of Professional Standards himself after his tweet was widely reported.

He then submitted his resignation before a police suspension over the incident came into force. It was accepted with immediate effect.
